Devotional: Fear

Mark 4:40 - "Then He asked them, 'Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?'"

The context of this verse comes from the story of Jesus calming the storm on the water. Waves were crashing over the boat, wind was howling around them, and there was Jesus sleeping soundly on a cushion. The disciples had been with Jesus long enough to see Him perform many miracles, yet they underestimated His power to control their situation.

Does this sound familiar? We have all seen countless miracles performed in our own lives and the lives of others, yet when we are in a "storm" we can't believe He will or can help us. We need to open our eyes to the truth and power of Christ. He has always been faithful to us and will continue to be faithful to us regardless our situation.

Fear is at the center of our lack of faith. We may not be aware of some of our fears but they drive at the heart of your words, actions and attitudes. Do you allow fears to overtake your faith?

Wishlist: Mid-Length Floral Skirt

I have been on the lookout for a really cute mid-length floral skirt. I love the length. I think it's the most flattering on my body-type. I can't stand the short short skirts. Anything more than 1 inch above my knee and I feel naked and can't stop tugging down. Not cute! This mid length style or "Midi" is my favorite. I bought this one from a few days ago so I will update when I get it. I'm a little nervous about the "crinkle" in it. Usually pleats don't look great on me so...yeah.

Which floral skirt is your favorite?

What I wore

Here is the first outfit post for my blog. I know you're supposed to pose cute and take several shots but I'm not into all that. I'm going to just show you a picture and tell you where the items are from. Boom! That's it. I might decide to change it up later but probably not. I'm simple so I'll keep it simple. I'm a mom so I don't usually look this fancy schmancy but I happened to be on my way to the office for a meeting.

Sweater: Target (old)

Devotional: Don't Copy

Romans 12:2- "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."

Following this particular passage of scripture is so difficult. Each of us finds ourselves living in a culture inundated with selfishness, materialism, gossip etc., yet we know it's a hollow existence. The Bible tells us to seek God's will, which is perfect, and let Him direct our paths. This means we allow God to change the way we think and our values. The world values money, power, fame, and pride. It asks the question, how much can I attain? Put this aside! We should be asking how can I contribute to the Kingdom of God!! How can my life reflect generosity, grace, mercy, and humility? By reading and studying the Bible and allowing God to change us, we can resist the temptations of this world in our lives.

What temptations do you face that make it hard to live God's way?

Devotional: Wise Woman

Proverbs 14:1- "A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands."

Have you ever noticed you can set the tone for the evening when your husband gets home from work? If you have a ho-hum demeanor or act tired and gloomy, it affects everything. As women and mothers we have the power to make or break our households. We have a choice. We can either work at building up our husbands, children and parents with kind words and encouragement, or with our bad attitudes, tear them down. Sometimes just a hug can communicate so much . It's a reassuring touch that can convey a feeling of belonging. There are many ways we can build our homes.

How can you do a better job at building your home?
