Closet: Red Skirt

This is another new skirt that I bought from thredUP. I love the length, however, it was really sheer so I had to add my homemade lace slip underneath to hide my unmentionables. The up side is, I paid $4.99 for it. Yes! I did a happy dance when I tried it on. No alterations needed.

Sweater: Old Navy
Skirt: thredUP
Shoes: Banana Republic
Slip: made by me
Necklace: Claire's

This was such a random hairstyle that turned our sorta ok. I guess that's what I'd look like if I chopped my hair off.
Have you ever experimented with a hairstyle before you got it cut?

Closet: Red Lace

I told you yesterday that I broke my spending fast after 56 days to purchase my new boot/high top oxford looking shoes. Well, I also made a thrift store run and stopped by Nordstrom Rack for the heck of it because I fell so hard off the wagon! Ahhh, the truth comes out! The good news was this pretty top was less than $10 on clearance at Nordies which makes me happy. I have nothing else like it so I felt that I was justified. I love the pop of this beautiful red/orange color.

Top: Nordstrom Rack
Skirt: Goodwill
Shoes: Target
Cuff: Forever 21
Earrings: Lia Sophia (gift)

Closet: Sweater Dress

I have been keeping my eye out for a sweater dress for a long time. Barriers for me were, too tight on bottom, too loose on top, too short, deep v, etc. I think I have finally found THE perfect sweater dress, and it was less than $20. I used a gift card anyway but hey, a deal is a deal, right?
I think it is still a little too short to be worn without leggings but maybe I could try it with my boots. Not sure. I just don't like bare legs that much.

Dress: Gap
Leggings: Forever 21
Boots: Forever 21
Earrings and Necklace: Kohl's

Confession: I broke my spending fast to buy these beauties! Dang it!!! I made it 56 days. That counts for something.
I liked my hair so I snapped a picture. This is probably my go-to hair style- some variation of half up half down. It's so easy and keeps hair off my face.
Also a great close up of my earrings. I think these are my favorite. I wear them multiple times a week because they go with everything.

Again, the weather changed so drastically that I chucked this outfit by 2pm in favor of some pjs and stayed home. Good times!

Have you heard of thredUP? It's the coolest online thrift store ever. I don't know if there is another like it yet. Sure there are places like Goodwill and Salvation Army, but thredUP actually does quality control and are picky about what they buy from sellers. You can find very damaged, stained and poor quality items at regular thrift stores, because someone donated them that way. With thredUP, you see a decent quality picture of the item and some relevant details like size, color, and if there are any tiny flaw. Some clothes are even new with tags and will let you know too. They have a large selection of designer and premium selection clothing as well.

To start, you can order their signature polka dot bag to fill and return to sell your old items. So far I have earned $41.28 selling my clothing. I really like to purge so I'm guessing that number will likely increase soon.

The Thrift Economy: Four Ways Thrift Shopping Aids Social Business by Larry Hollon.
This article explains the benefits of buying second hand items. Here are some bullet points to consider:

1. "Thrift shopping provides lower economic groups access to goods they might not normally be able to afford."

2. "The thrift stores are giving back to the community."

3. "Social consciousness and an increased focus on recycling and repurposed goods are at the heart of a portion of thrift purchases."

4. "Thrift shopping has a global impact. About half the garments donated to places like The Salvation Army eventually wind up in overseas market stalls or as industrial fiber. That second life translates into 17,000 jobs in the United States, an estimated 100,000 jobs in Africa’s informal economy and a multi-national trade in second-hand clothing valued at more than $1 billion a year."

I love the fact that we are recycling our used items. This makes for a more sustainable environment for everyone.

I'm so glad I found thredUP and will be a loyal customer for years to come.

Here's a link to their site.

Have you used thredUP yet? How do you like it?
