Closet: Lace Top

Here is the top I got from my post about Stitch Fix. I love the lace detail and the fact that it's black and white. I kept the outfit neutral and add a pop of color in the orange earrings.

Getting healthier

I find myself making up too many rules that I feel the need to immediately break. No eating after 7pm. Sweets only every other day. Three serving of both fruits and veggies. Yada yada yada!

I'm done with all that. My new plan is going to be...wait for it... just eat healthy. For goodness sakes, why didn't I think of this before? When I worked at a bank, we had the opportunity to take a nutrition class at lunch. A certified nutritionist brought examples for us of what a healthy plate looked like. Half the plate were "free foods." Veggies, greens etc. 1/4 was startches/carbs and the last 1/4 was for protein. It looked similar to this.

I remember walking a whole hour on my lunch breaks and eating healthy small meals throughout the day. I have always battled my love of candy and did back then too but somehow I had so much more self control when I knew I had to sit all day.

These days, I'm more active. I participate in a "Get Fit Moms" group on Facebook for all the MOPS moms. We do 4-6 week challenges and pay $5 into a pot. If you work out three times a week doing 20 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of strength, you have a chance at the pot at the end of the challenge. I won last time so it really motivated me to do it again. Currently, I am more active but I also spend a ton of time at home. On the couch. With a Starburst in my mouth. Or a Reese's. You get the idea.

The plan: When deciding what to eat, try to eat the healthiest version of whatever it is. For example, at the mall food court- Salad, dressing on the side. At home- instead of a Hot Pocket, I will make a healthy sandwhich. Also, I will try subbing a piece of fruit for the candy I usually have hidden in various places throughout my house.

What's your plan for eating healthy? Do make sure to get enough fruits and veggies?

Countdown to Thanksgiving

9 Days left!
I'm hosting Thanksgiving at my house for the first time ever! I'm a little nervous for a few reasons, one- I hate hosting and two- I hate cooking. Just kidding...a little. I like to cook when it's easy. This year I made a Pinterest board of all the items on my menu. You can see that here. They are all pretty easy so it doesn't seem as daunting.

My grandma is bringing the turkey and stuffing. Yes! I'm a vegetarian so we wouldn't have had one without grandma!

I'm really looking forward to all the deserts. I'm going to try a pumpkin smoothie and other lovely pumpkin treats. I just got done doing one haul at Target and with coupons got $78 worth of groceries for $40. Not extreme couponing by any means but it will do for me. Thanks coupons!

Sorry, the link on Pinterest goes nowhere. I have another one on my thanksgiving board that does.

What recipes are you looking forward to trying?

Stitch Fix

I received my first fix last week and was pleasantly surprised with what I received!

5 items all hand chosen from my style preferences. They have you fill out a style sheet detailing your likes/dislikes, sizes, and fit needs.

A personal stylist named Stachia included style cards which showed two unique looks for each piece included in the fix. I thought that was a great way for me to see how each piece would work with current pieces in my wardrobe.

Items included in my fix were:

Black and White Lace tank $28- I loved this one so I kept it.

Gold teardrop charm necklace $32

Dot and Stripe Cardigan $48

Skinny Jeans $88

Green Peasant Blouse $58

Overall, Stitchfix is great, and I loved that it was a mystery what would show up in the box, but thought the individual pieces were too expensive for my budget. I have never paid over $40 for a pair of jeans and over $30 for a top. I will try it one more time if they can price the items lower for my budget, otherwise I can't afford it. Maybe for a Christmas or Birthday present. It's so fun!

I paired the top with a collared shirt I got at the thrift store to make it more of a fall look. I love that the tank isn't too tight I think it will be such a versatile item for my wardrobe. Don't be surprised if you see this baby more than once in the next few days.

Have you ever tried a service like Stitchfix? How was your experience?

Closet: Bird Sweater

Nothing much going on today. Just recovering from a sore throat.

Sweater: Target
Orange Tank: Forever 21
Jeans: 7 for all Mankind (thrifted)
Shoes: Toms via Nordstrom Rack

I've seen graphic animal sweaters everywhere and wanted to try it out too. I think it's funny and sort of stupid to have an animal on your sweater but I like it anyway. Go figure!

Have you tried the animal on your clothes thing yet?

Closet:Oxford

I have a few button downs like this but never wear them because they feel too formal. I like this outfit though. I paired the top and blazer with casual jeans and flats to "unstuff" this outfit. I could keep the top and add a pencil skirt or dress pants for the office. If I had an office.

Do you ever feel like you want to dress fancier than your lifestyle calls for? That's me in a nutshell.

Yes, I am aware I wore this shirt yesterday too. Remixing. Boom!

Closet:Orange Flats

These orange flats from Old Navy are surprisingly comfortable. A while back, I ordered several pairs of shoes from them, only to send all of them back. They look cute but are really uncomfortable. Five or so years ago I would have just kept them if they looked good. Recently, however, due to my spending fast and my pursuit of quality, comfortable shoes, I have been really picky. I am usually willing to pay more for comfort but scored these puppies for $6 on clearance. Yes!

Sweater: Loft
Top: Banana Republic
Pants: J Crew (tailored by me)
Flats: Old Navy

Sorry, I forgot to take a close-up of the shoes themselves. Oh, well. Next time.

Are there any shoes that have surprised you at their comfort level lately?

Getting to know me some more

I love Netflix. Some of my favorite shows are: 24, Alias, Hart of Dixie, Burn Notice, The Office, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, Breaking Bad, Drop Dead Diva, and Lost.
I know not all of these are current, but that's the great thing about Netflix! You can start watching something and keep watching it for 17 hours until you've seen the entire series. I'm not saying I've done that recently, but back in the day, Jonathan and I would binge on 24. Good times.

Tina Fey- my favorite lady!!!

I love to shop but have recently tried to calm down in that area. I'm trying to be content with less and get in the mindset of remixing my clothing instead of buying new things.

I love to read. In 2011, I read over 80 books, trying to learn about real estate investing and finances. Now I read books about mommy-ing, spiritual self-help and a few novels sprinkled in.

Working out is something I want to do every day but am too lazy most days. I was in the best shape of my life after Katelyn was born. I started doing Stroller Strides 2-3 times a week and ate really well. Over the past 9-10 months, my eating has been horrendous and working out very lightly, not really having a plan or being serious about a routine. All that has changed in the past week when I started a 30 day challenge on bodyrock.tv. I finished day 12 and feel great! I have may more stamina now than when I started. I can even do two man push ups!

Date Night

My husband and I were able to have a date night for the first time in a while. We saw a movie at Marina Del Rey Dine In theatre. Have you ever heard of such a thing? It was AMAZING!!! First of all, the plush seats reclined. Yes! Compared to regular theatre seats, this was so great. There was a button on the seat to call the server whenever you needed. I ordered a quesadilla, one of the best I've ever tasted. We saw the movie Gravity in 3D. I was completely against 3D because I thought it would make me nauseous. It was ok but afterwards, I felt like the floor was really close and my steps were wonky. Thankfully, that only lasted a few minutes. Here is what I wore that night. I have been wearing the heck our of scarves lately because I've been a little sick and it makes me feel cozy.

Jacket: Nordstrom Rack
Top: TJ Maxx
Skirt: Zara (thrifted)
Shoes: Banana Republic
Scarf: Forever 21

Overall, it was a great experience that I would totally do again, if I can convince my husband. He wasn't too thrilled at the large amount of cash we dropped that evening.
